The Loving Heart Chakra

This week’s Wisdom Wednesday dives into the Heart Chakra (Anahata)—the energetic bridge between the physical and spiritual planes. In Sanskrit, “Anahata” translates to “unstruck” or “sound made without two things striking,” symbolizing the coexistence of body and spirit. This chakra governs love, compassion, and emotional balance, allowing us to connect with ourselves and others on a deeper level.

While working on this chakra this week, I experienced a lot of emotions most of which was past trauma. These feelings made me realize how relationships present themselves in my life, and how I show up in those relationships. Within the heart chakra oracle cards, a common theme that presented itself was compassion for others and oneself. Some other themes from the cards included finding emotional balance, finding joy in the little things that fill your heart, and learn to give and recieve.

Symbolism & Energy

The Heart Chakra is represented by a 12-petaled lotus flower with a six-pointed star (the Star of David) in the center. This star consists of two triangles: one pointing downward, representing spirit descending into the body, and the other pointing upward, symbolizing matter rising to meet the spirit. Together, they depict balance and harmony—both key themes of the Heart Chakra.

Signs of an Imbalanced Heart Chakra

When this chakra is open and balanced, we experience unconditional love, compassion, and emotional stability. We give and receive love freely, nurture deep connections, and embrace both joy and sorrow with grace. However, an overactive or blocked Heart Chakra can manifest in different ways.

When overactive, one might:

  • Love too much to the point of self-sacrifice
  • Cling to relationships out of fear of rejection
  • Over-give without healthy boundaries

When blocked or underactive, a person may:

  • Fear intimacy and vulnerability
  • Struggle with self-love or worthiness
  • Harbor resentment, grief, or emotional numbness

This chakra is also linked to physical ailments such as chest tightness, shallow breathing, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Since the thymus gland is associated with the Heart Chakra, immune system issues may also arise when it is out of balance.

How to Balance the Heart Chakra

Bringing harmony to the Heart Chakra involves nurturing practices that cultivate love, openness, and connection.

🌿 Eat Heart-Healthy Foods: Incorporate green fruits and vegetables like avocados, spinach, broccoli, and kiwi to energetically nourish the Heart Chakra.

💚 Surround Yourself with Green: Wear green clothing, decorate your space with plants, or spend time in nature to absorb heart-healing energy.

🔮 Use Healing Crystals: Carry or wear malachite, emerald, or rose quartz to amplify love and emotional balance.

💧 Essential Oils: Diffuse or apply rose, bergamot, or jasmine essential oils to support heart-opening energy.

🧘‍♀️ Practice Heart-Opening Yoga & Breathwork: Poses like camel pose, cobra pose, and upward-facing dog help open the chest and release stored emotions. A breathing technique called The Breath of Fire also helps regulate heart energy and gets blood pumping through the body.

🕊️ Embrace Emotional Release & Reflection: Journaling, meditation, and self-compassion exercises can help heal past wounds and encourage vulnerability in relationships.

A Personal Experience With Connection & Relationships

I connected with a good friend for coffee last Thursday. We talked and chatted about a lot of things and tried to brainstorm ideas on how we can connect and get involved with the community more. It seems our conversations are always intimate and deeply emotional. We both appreciated our connection that day.

Later on that day I came across a post on social media related to human design. If you’re not familiar with human design, it’s a petty unique tool that untilizes your birth date, time and place to help gain another perspective on yourself. Anyways this post talked about how a projector (which is one of a few profiles in human design and happens to be what mine is) could use a good generator friend in their life that can hold you through times of growth, alchemy, transformation, and change. After reading that I thought, “Am I friends with any generators?” I just couldn’t recall anyone in that moment.

About an hour later my friend that I met up with coffee earlier sent me information on her being a generator and asking me what I was. I laughed and texted her I was just thinking about human design an hour ago and sent her the post I saw. She responded with “We on the same brainwaves!” Haha. I took that as a synchronicity sign from the universe. Almost like the sign was so bold and saying, “Hey! This person here is a generator! Look no further!”

A Powerful Perspective on Rejection & the Heart Chakra

One thing that stuck out from the conversation I had with my friend that day was about how we have been feeling rejection. They said, “Maybe it’s not rejection, but rather redirection.” This resonated deeply, as fear of rejection often stems from a blocked Heart Chakra. Re-framing rejection as a loving redirection towards something better can be a profound way to heal and trust in the universe’s guidance.

Final Thoughts

The Heart Chakra reminds us that love starts within. By tending to our emotional well-being, practicing self-love, and embracing compassion, we strengthen this vital energy center.

Thank you for joining me on this heart-centered journey. Tune in next week as we explore the Throat Chakra—the gateway to authentic expression! 💙
