The Throat Chakra: Unlocking Authentic Expression & the Gift of Gab

This past Monday was St. Patrick’s Day, a time of celebration, storytelling, and a little bit of luck. It got me thinking about the power of words and the ability to express ourselves freely—a perfect time to dive into the throat chakra, or Vishuddha in Sanskrit.

This week’s Wisdom Wednesday explores the throat chakra, which governs how we express and communicate our truth. What is our story? How do we best express ourselves? These are the questions that came up for me as I explored this energy center.

I feel this week my communication has been strange and I’ve been putting off making this blog post for this week. It definitely strayed away from Wednesday this week! Haha! I feel like it took me longer to figure out what I wanted to say in this weeks post, which I feel it may be related to the throat chakra energies I have been working with.

I have always struggled with expressing or communicating my thoughts. For a majority of my life, I would speak quietly or mumble. I can also be really soft-spoken, which sometimes causes me to stop talking or hold back from expressing myself. Over the years, I’ve learned that there are many different ways to express myself—through art, photography, music, writing, and so many other creative outlets.

Signs of Imbalance in the Throat Chakra

When this chakra is too open, it can manifest as over-talkativeness, interrupting, or expressing opinions too strongly—sometimes without being asked. It can make a person seem arrogant or overly self-righteous.

On the other hand, a blocked throat chakra often shows up as difficulty in expressing emotions, holding back self-expression, or even struggling with creative blocks. It can also bring physical symptoms like sore throats, thyroid issues, tinnitus, or even asthma.

A well-balanced throat chakra allows us to be articulate, confident, and mindful communicators—able to express ourselves authentically while also being great listeners.

Finding Balance: Tools for a Healthy Throat Chakra

If you’ve been struggling with self-expression, here are some ways to bring balance to your throat chakra:

  • Eat blue foods – Blueberries and other naturally blue-colored foods can nourish this energy center.
  • Wear blue – The color blue resonates with the throat chakra and helps bring clarity to your words.
  • Use essential oils – Chamomile, lavender, and frankincense can soothe and support communication.
  • Work with crystals – Blue kyanite is great for clarity and confidence in self-expression.
  • Practice active listening – The throat chakra isn’t just about speaking—it’s also about truly hearing others.

The Blarney Stone & the “Gift of Gab”

Since St. Patrick’s Day just passed, I couldn’t help but think about the Blarney Stone and its legendary power to grant the “Gift of Gab” to those who kiss it. Found at Blarney Castle in Ireland, this mystical stone is said to give people eloquence and the ability to charm others with their words.

While the story of the Blarney Stone is fun and lighthearted, it’s also a reminder of how powerful our voices can be. Whether through speech, writing, music, or other creative outlets, finding your voice and using it with truth and confidence is a gift.

For me, finding my voice has been a journey. I’ve had to learn that even though I might not be the loudest person in the room, my voice still matters. I don’t have to force myself to speak just for the sake of it—I can express myself in ways that feel natural and authentic to me. Whether it’s through my work, creativity, or even quiet but meaningful conversations, I am learning that self-expression is about quality, not quantity.

So, if you’ve been feeling blocked in communication or unsure of how to express yourself, maybe it’s time to embrace your own “Gift of Gab”—not just by talking more, but by speaking from a place of authenticity, wisdom, and heart.

What are some ways you express yourself when words feel hard to find? Let’s open up the conversation! 💙✨
